Toronto Police Service Receives 56 Defibrillators Valued at $200,000

TORONTO - Today, Toronto Police Chief William Blair accepted a donation of 56 defibrillators from Hugh Heron, President of Heathwood Homes and Co-Founder of The MIKEY Network.

Valued at over $200,000, the donation was made after The MIKEY Network presented their proposal to the Toronto Police Services Board.  The Board approved the donation and now defibrillators will be located at various facilities across the Toronto Police Service.

“I am pleased to accept these lifesaving gifts on behalf of the Toronto Police Service,” said Chief Blair.  “With a defibrillator in most TPS facilities, including every division, my officers and members of the public will be safer thanks to The MIKEY Network.”

“I thank The MIKEY Network for this very generous donation.  These defibrillators will save the lives of members of the Toronto Police Service and members of the community,” said Alok Mukherjee, Chair of the Toronto Police Services Board.

The MIKEY Network is a non-profit organization working to create public awareness and provide education about heart healthy lifestyles.  The organization has committed to placing defibrillators in as many high-risk locations as possible.

“At Heathwood Homes, we’ve talked for years about how important the police are and how much they do to protect our communities,” said Hugh Heron, Principal and Partner in The Heron Group of Companies and President of Heathwood Homes.  “Our donation is an example of the community giving back to these dedicated professionals.”

More than 90 per cent of people in cardiac arrest require an electrical shock from a defibrillator to convert their heart rhythm to normal.  A Public Access Defibrillator gives victims a fighting chance and increases chance of survival by up to 50 per cent.
